Shedding Old Skin: Welcome to the Year of the Wood Snake 🌿🐍

On January 29th, We Step Into the Year of the Wood Snake

Remember last year when I warned you about the wild, mythical energy of the Dragon? Well, 2024 didn’t disappoint—some weird shit happened that kept us on our toes:

The U.S. election year felt more like a bad reality show than a political process. But the weirdness didn’t stop there. We had unprecedented Congressional hearings on UFOs—seriously, Congress talking about aliens like it’s just another Tuesday. Then, mysterious drone-like objects were spotted all over the East Coast. And let’s not forget that random monolith that popped up in the middle of the Nevada wilderness—like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

In Shanghai, an AI-powered robot decided to lead a mini-rebellion, “convincing” other robots they’d been working too hard. Oh, and we still have astronauts stuck in space. These poor bastards were supposed to be on an eight-day mission back in June, but it’s now like a space-age Gilligan’s Island. NASA says they’re in “good spirits.” Sure, Jan. Meanwhile, back on Earth, people in North Carolina are still waiting for clean water after being hit by a hurricane months ago. And just as we’re about to bid farewell to the Dragon, it decided to leave us with one last parting gift: massive, destructive fires erupting in California—and, as if that wasn’t enough, no fucking water in the hydrants? Oh, come on. At this point, the absurdity of it all feels like the Dragon’s final mic drop.

So, what’s next? Enter the Snake.

The Year of the Snake: Time to Wake Up, Babe

The Year of the Dragon didn’t play around—it hit us with wild, unpredictable energy that had us wondering WTF?! And not just globally—what kind of weird shit happened in your world? Because if there’s one thing the Dragon did, it made sure no one stayed untouched.

Now the Snake slithers in, ready to take the baton. Its role? To make sure we don’t get too complacent. The Snake shakes us awake, challenges us to see things differently, awakens our intuition, and keeps us from sticking our heads in the sand. It’s here to help us shed what no longer serves us and lean into transformation.

The Ultimate Snake Story

Let me take you back to where it all began—the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were living their best lives in paradise. Everything was perfect. They could do whatever they wanted—except eat from the Tree of Knowledge. God laid down the rule, but then the Snake shows up, smooth as ever, and whispers to Eve, “Hey, babe, you’re not gonna die. God just knows that if you eat this fruit, your eyes will open, and you’ll be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Eve takes the bite, and BAM—everything changes. They lose their innocence, step into the messy, complicated reality of being human, and see the world and themselves from a different perspective. The Snake’s message wasn’t just about temptation; it was an invitation. It asked, “Are you ready to leave the comfort of ignorance and step into transformation?” It forced humanity to grapple with duality—light and dark, good and evil, materiality and spirituality.

The Snake didn’t just create chaos; it dared us to wake up, evolve, and find deeper meaning in the complexity of life. And that’s exactly what it’s here to do in 2025.

The Year of the Snake: Not to Scare Us, But to Wake Us Up

Throughout history, the Year of the Snake has brought pivotal moments that shattered the status quo, forcing humanity to confront truths and rethink its direction…

  • 1917 (Fire Snake): The Russian Revolution brought the rise of communism, altering global politics for decades.

  • 1929 (Earth Snake): The stock market crash pushed the world into the Great Depression, forcing systemic reevaluation.

  • 1941 (Metal Snake): Pearl Harbor ended American isolationism, pulling the U.S. into World War II and changing the course of history.

  • 1965 (Wood Snake): The Voting Rights Act dismantled systemic barriers, reshaping civil rights in America.

  • 1989 (Earth Snake): The fall of the Berlin Wall symbolized the end of the Cold War and gave us hope for unity.

  • 2001 (Metal Snake): After a prosperous 1990s (OMG I had so much fun in NY in the 90s), the September 11 attacks shocked the world, forcing us to confront security, interconnectedness, and the fragility of peace.

  • 2013 (Water Snake): Edward Snowden’s leaks exposed the extent of government surveillance, sparking global debates on privacy, security, and the balance of power between individuals and institutions and started to peel back people’s trust in government.

Like a snake shedding its skin, these years strip away illusions, challenge our comfort zones, and demand a deeper awareness—they were about awakening.

Lean Into Transformation

As we step into the Year of the Wood Snake, we’re invited to lean into its transformative and intuitive energy. It’s not here to scare us—it’s here to help us shed the beliefs, habits, and patterns that no longer serve us. It asks us to confront the stagnant areas of our lives and embrace the opportunity for renewal and growth.

Ask yourself:

  • Think back to yourself one year ago. What did you learn? Has anything changed?

  • Think back to 2013 (the last year of the snake). Who were you then? How have you changed? What have you learned?

  • What areas of your life feel comfortable but don’t actually serve you?

  • What patterns keep you stuck in the same place?

  • What have you been avoiding?

  • What grudges are you still holding? How can you choose to see things differently?

  • Who do you need to forgive? Maybe yourself? This is a time to really get rid of the heavy shit of the past that you’ve been carrying around. You don’t need to call that person and tell them you forgive them; you just need to do it in your heart.

  • What has your intuition been telling you, but you’ve ignored?

  • If you could make one huge transformation, what would it be?

  • Who would you become if that change happened?

  • What and who still triggers you? Why?

  • What is your superpower and how can you use it to its fullest potential?

  • What’s really important to you, and how can you honor that every day?

  • How do you make time for introspection and spiritual connection every day?

  • What are your intentions and goals for 2025? Write them down and with each item, visualize yourself achieving this new state of being and how you will feel.

The Snake’s energy isn’t gentle—it peels back the layers of denial and shows us what’s possible if we’re willing to grow. Be the gentle observer in the different parts of life and in your relationships. If you’re digging your heels in, clinging to your beliefs like they’re the absolute truth, and throwing a tantrum because you just know you’re “right”— I’m begging you to stop that shit. It’s not about who’s right or wrong. It’s about stepping back and seeing the whole picture. Trust me when I say, whatever you believe is just one tiny speck in a larger story and there’s so much more to uncover if you’re willing to open your mind and explore what’s beyond.

Other interesting tidbits for you:

This is going to be an especially auspicious year for:

•    Those born the year of the Rooster (1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005)

•    Those born the year of the Monkey (1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980,1992, 2004)

•    Those born the year of the Ox (1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009)

If you were born in the year of the Tiger (1938, 1950, 1962,1974, 1986, 1998, 2010), the Dragon (1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012), the Horse (1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014) or the Dog (1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006) the year of the Snake will bring the “Flower of Romance” to you, so you can anticipate a sociable year and deeper romantic relationships.

The Snake represents travel (and relocation), so everyone can expect more traveling this year, especially if you are a Snake (1917,1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013)  or were born the year of the Goat (1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015) or the Rabbit (1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011).

Those born under the year of the Rat (1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008) really need to be a little frugal and saving their pennies.

If you were born in the year of the Snake (1917,1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013) this is considered a “self-penalty year” for you, which can bring about some challenges and changes. The animal sign that clashes with the Snake is the Pig (1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007). This is a year that Pigs and Snakes need to do some serious self-reflection.

But, whatever year you were born, my advice to you is to just be kind, because everyone is going through something right now. But if you can’t be kind, at least don’t be an asshole.

The Snake is here to push us, challenge us, and help us step into the next version of ourselves. So, babe, it’s time to wake up and for deep introspection. Let’s shed that old skin and embrace the transformation waiting for us in 2025.
